German Wings official website - analysis, information, review
German Wings is a low cost airline from Germany, which initially served mainly Central European routes and now, it has extended its services throughout Europe, even to parts of the Middle East, like Istanbul and Ankara in Turkey, and, not only that, it also flies to Moscow! You'll find few other EU low cost carriers that take passengers to Russia. Well, German Wings does fly to the Russian capital...
Its most important competitors are the British easyJet, the Irish Ryanair, the Hungarian WIZZ Air, Hapag-Lloyd, based in Germany and the from Holland, Transavia.
The company serves, mostly, the German cities Stuttgart, Hamburg, Köln, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Dresden, etc., where much of the air traffic is directed, but it also drives air traffic to other Central European cities and, of course, cities in the Middle East as well.
Website & online booking services
The company's slogan is "Fly high, pay low", which is true, their reduced operational costs are trult effective, you can find fares just above 10 Euros.
The online booking system is easily visible on the site, you won't have to look for it, similar in characteristics to most fill-out forms, which we can find on airline sites.
The destinations are numerous, countries include: Great Britain, Ireland, Germany, France, Poland, Hungary, Sweden, Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Finland, Norway, Switzerland and lots more. The airline covers practically every corner of Europe! Less cities from Eastern Europe, though.
The site is multilingual, which is not uncommon, but actually this means that the countries where German Wings jets fly are represented by different websites, by clicking on the flag of a country, you'll be redirected to the German Wings site for that country. The site is intelligent and might send you automatically to the site with your language, by detecting the language you use on your PC? Impressive? Useful indeed, useful service, which is being introduced by many airlines in the World, especially the low cost airlines.
Car rentals and hotels are available except the low cost plane tickets...
German Wings has a partnership with Centralwings, another low fare carrier, for the routes to Polish cities.
There is a "Business travel" section, where the business traveler can find out about the corporate services, rarely seen at low cost airlines.
The "Flight info" page shows information related to airports, flight schedules and more, it also has area maps of the airports based in Germany, helping you plan your plane trip.
The website overall is well organized, however the 800x600 screen resolution users might have smaller difficulties, the website being too wide, not optimized for 800x600 resolution, which is very popular amongst users.
The booking section is well built up, the design is good, however not specially attractive.
There's a weather report section, which is very useful under the "E-specials" section and there's another interesting chapter, called "Visit Germany", where you can find travel information, very useful indeed, few sites have sections dedicated to the promotion of tourism in their country.
