In 2004, the famous Virgin Group has given birth to a new airline, Virgin Nigeria. The first flight took off on June 28, 2005. In 2006, Virgin Nigeria had a fleet of 7 aircraft and a list of 10 destinations in Africa, the Middle East and Europe. The airline connects mainly cities in Africa and the Middle east: Lagos, Abuja, Dubai, Port Harcourt, Kano, Johannesburg... But it also operates routes to London. Nigeria is an emerging market and was too important to be overlooked. Virgin Group has exploited the opportunity and seems to do well at the beginning. The African low cost airline market is still very young, with low competition, but it's growing, as more and more people choose air travel all over the contient. The airline connects cities in Africa and the Middle east: Lagos, Abuja, Dubai, Port Harcourt, Kano, Johannesburg... But it also operates routes to London. Virgin Nigeria operates mainly from its base at Lagos' Murtala Mohammed International Airport.
Website & online booking services
Virgin Nigeria's site is pretty much similar to most Virgin airline sites. Comprehensive, elegant website offering basic tools that a visitor would need. The interface is simple, easy to understand, but not impressive at all. Poor additional services, only English language support. They have a timetable, which most airlines don't display on their sites. They also have a "How To Book" section, where inexperienced clients can learn about how online booking is done. Overall, it's well designed, comprehensive, but poor in services.
